Is Reduced-Cost Therapy For You?

To help make mental health support more affordable, we now offer reduced-cost therapy provided by Master’s and Doctoral-level practicum students and interns who are training to become psychologists. All trainee therapists work under the direct supervision of a Registered Psychologist, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care. This service option is ideal for adults seeking online therapy from anywhere in Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador at a lower cost.

High-Quality Care, Fully Supervised by a Registered Psychologist

Every trainee is carefully selected, trained, and supervised by a Registered Psychologist in good standing with their provincial regulatory college. This means:

  • All treatment plans are reviewed by a psychologist
  • Sessions are guided by evidence-informed, ethical practice
  • You receive safe, structured support at a reduced fee
  • Receipts for insurance reimbursement are issued under the supervising psychologist’s name

Many extended health plans will reimburse services provided under supervision. We encourage clients to check their specific coverage.

Limited Availability — First Come, First Served

Because trainee placements are temporary and space is limited, reduced-cost therapy spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once a trainee’s caseload is full, a waitlist may be available until new placements begin.

We recommend booking your free consult as soon as possible if you’re interested.

Get Started With Reduced-Cost Therapy

Prospective clients must book a free 20-minute consultation with the reduced-cost clinician before committing to a full session. This consult helps you:

  • Ask questions about the trainee therapist’s approach
  • Share your goals and present concerns
  • Determine whether this service is a good clinical fit
  • Discuss fees, availability, and any financial-need considerations

If reduced-cost therapy is not appropriate for your needs, we will help you explore other options within Guidepoint Clinic.

Our reduced-cost therapy program provides substantially lower rates than standard psychotherapy services.

Because fees are already reduced for trainees, further discounting is limited but may be available in certain circumstances.

Situations That May Qualify for Additional Reduced Fees

We may consider additional fee reductions on a case-by-case basis for clients who are:

  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Experiencing disability-related financial strain
  • Involved with the legal system including probation or court-ordered counselling
  • Full-time post secondary students

These options can be discussed during the initial free consultation.

No diagnosis is required. Many people seek therapy for emotional support, stress, or personal development without having a formal diagnosis.

Absolutely. Reduced-cost therapy follows the same strict confidentiality, privacy, and security standards as all Guidepoint Clinic services, using secure, privacy-compliant platforms.

Together, you’ll decide which therapist might be best suited for your specific goals.
