Is Therapy For Problematic Sexual Thoughts Or Behaviour Right For Me?

Experiencing sexual thoughts or behaviours that feel concerning, intrusive, or harmful can be distressing and isolating. Therapy provides a confidential, nonjudgmental space to understand these patterns, reduce risk, and build healthier coping strategies. Seeking support is a proactive step toward change and responsibility.

Distressing Thoughts

Unwanted or persistent sexual thoughts can cause shame, guilt, or anxiety. Therapy helps you manage and reduce their impact.

Risky Behaviour

Engaging in sexual behaviours that put you or others at risk may signal an underlying problem. Support can help you recognize triggers and develop safer alternatives.

Relationship Impact

Problematic behaviours can harm intimacy, trust, or connection. Therapy provides tools to rebuild relationships on healthier foundations.

Feelings of Isolation

It’s common to feel alone in managing these struggles. Therapy offers understanding and practical strategies for change.

Trauma-Informed, Assessment-Driven Care

All services are delivered virtually, allowing individuals and families across Ontario and Newfoundland & Labrador to access specialized care regardless of location. Our clinicians are experienced in working alongside legal counsel, child protection services, and other professionals when therapy occurs in complex or court-adjacent contexts.

Guidepoint Clinic is committed to providing clinically rigorous, ethical, and compassionate therapy for adults, youth, and families impacted by harmful sexual behaviours, with a focus on safety, accountability, and meaningful change.

Therapy for Adults

We provide specialized therapy for adults who are concerned about their sexual thoughts or behaviours, or who have engaged in harmful or boundary-violating sexual behaviour. Therapy is confidential, structured, and focused on supporting clients to take responsibility while developing safer, healthier patterns.

Treatment plans are individually tailored and may focus on:

  • Accountability and insight into behaviour patterns
  • Emotional regulation and impulse control
  • Developing healthy coping strategies
  • Reducing risk and supporting prosocial decision-making
  • Addressing shame, secrecy, and isolation in a therapeutic context

Our clinicians are experienced in working with clients who may also be navigating legal involvement or system-related requirements, and can collaborate with other professionals when appropriate.

Therapy for Youth

* Please note that youth therapy for sexual thoughts/behaviours is only available in Ontario at this time.

Guidepoint Clinic has specific expertise in working with adolescents and youth who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours, including intra-familial behaviours such as sibling sexual abuse. Treatment is developmentally informed, trauma-aware, and grounded in best practices for reducing risk and supporting long-term behavioural change.

When clinically appropriate, youth treatment may include:

  • Individual therapy for the young person
  • Parent or caregiver involvement
  • Family therapy to address impact, boundaries and safety planning
  • Coordination with legal, child protection, or other professional systems

Our approach prioritizes safety, responsibility, and developmental needs, while recognizing the significant impact these behaviours can have on siblings and the broader family system..

Therapy for Families & Couples

* Please note that family therapy is only available in Ontario at this time.

In addition to individual treatment, Guidepoint Clinic offers therapy for partners, parents, and families affected by harmful sexual behaviours. These services support families navigating disclosure, relational rupture, legal involvement, separation, or efforts toward repair and reconnection.

Family and couples therapy may focus on:
  • Processing trauma, betrayal, and complex emotions
  • Rebuilding trust and emotional safety where appropriate
  • Strengthening communication and boundaries
  • Understanding risk and protective factors
  • Developing clear safety plans and next steps

We also provide dedicated support for parents, caregivers, and partners to help them make sense of what has occurred, reduce isolation, and feel supported through challenging decisions.

“You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.”
